Winter Solstice

On the setting of another season, we can’t resist the desire to reflect and prepare for winter’s slumber. The time of year when leaves wash up in crimson tides to every doorstep and curbside. Trees left vulnerable with no coat. It has been a long year filled with trials and tribulations; perhaps we are long overdue for a nice nap.

When I was a little girl I dreamed constantly, it seemed there was never a shortage of creativity. On Halloween I would watch the moon, waiting for a broomstick in flight. Christmas eve I saw Rudolph glowing outside my window (of course now I know it was some blinking tower). Yet, The moon always seemed largest during summer nights when crickets sang and bonfires felt like welcomed blankets at the end of a glorious day. Things seemed brighter then, so much adventure and passion. There was just me and the man in the moon and oh how I miss the fireflies...

When you turn out the light on fall and sink in to winter, remember a moment when time stood still and dreams were infectious; wrap yourself in it. As adults our eyes have adapted to the darkness and the burdens of our responsibilities wounded us. Close your eyes and remember….time heals and the innocence of youth still holds it’s flame inside you, put tomorrows troubles on the back burner and for tonight – smile, laugh and dream!

Quote of the week

“Winter. I can smell the cold coming. I can almost take a bite out of it. Tastes like a cold steel bar.”
